The General care of Ragdolls..
🐾
Welcome to Ragmad Ragdolls.
At Ragmad Ragdolls, we have extensive experiences and a deep passion, for caring for, Ragdoll cats and other animals. We’re proud to offer expert, personalised guidance to help you provide the best possible care for your Ragdoll — keeping them in excellent health and ensuring both their physical and emotional wellbeing. A happy, healthy cat starts with informed, loving care.
🧼 Coat Care & Grooming
Ragdolls have long, silky coats, which vary in thickness from cat to cat. Without regular grooming, their fur can become knotted, matted, and will naturally shed (moult).
-
We recommend brushing your Ragdoll at least once or twice per week to keep their coat healthy and smooth.
-
While they’re still kittens, it's helpful to groom them more frequently so they become comfortable with being brushed and combed.
Most Ragdolls enjoy grooming — it’s a calming, soothing activity that strengthens the bond between cat and owner. Don’t be surprised if you're met with loud purrs and relaxed snuggles during your grooming sessions!
🦷 Dental Care
Caring for your Ragdoll’s teeth is just as important as coat care. Ideally, you should brush their teeth daily to establish a strong routine.
-
Adult teeth usually come in between 6 and 9 months of age.
-
At a minimum, aim to brush their teeth at least three times a week to prevent plaque and tartar build-up, which can lead to tooth decay and even extractions.
Regular brushing helps prevent dental pain and costly vet visits — just like in humans! Starting this routine early in kittenhood helps avoid resistance and makes dental care a natural part of daily life. Consistency is key.
🏡 Indoor-Only Living
Ragdolls are strictly indoor cats. Their gentle, laid-back nature makes them less aware of dangers outdoors.
-
They’re at higher risk of road accidents due to their lack of street awareness.
-
Their friendly temperament also puts them at risk of being stolen.
That said, there are safe ways for your Ragdoll to enjoy the outdoors:
-
Harness training: Many Ragdolls can be trained to walk on a lead.
-
Cat-proof fencing or a catio: These allow your cat to safely explore the garden.
Our Ragdolls love relaxing in the sun, watching birds, and nibbling on grass — which aids digestion and can reduce hairballs and constipation. If outdoor access isn't possible, cat grass can also be grown indoors.
🎾 Play, Enrichment & Exercise
Play is essential for your Ragdoll’s physical and mental health. Enrichment helps burn off energy, keeps them engaged, and supports healthy development.
Recommended toys and equipment include:
-
Tall cat trees with scratching posts
-
Wall-mounted cat shelves for climbing
-
Interactive toys like wands, laser pointers, tunnels, ball tracks, and dangle toys
Every kitten has a unique personality, so try different types of play and observe what they enjoy most. Variety keeps things interesting — and yes, be ready for those zoomies!
💉 Health & Preventative Care
To keep your Ragdoll in top condition, make sure to stay on top of essential health care:
-
Flea and worming treatments (regular, preventative)
-
Nail trimming as needed
-
Vaccinations:
-
Your kitten will receive their first two vaccines before joining your family
-
Annual boosters are required one year after the initial course and every year after that
-
Routine vet visits are highly recommended to support long-term health and catch any issues early.
❤️ Love, Time & Affection
Above all, your Ragdoll needs your love, time, and attention. Affection, companionship, and daily interaction are key to their emotional wellbeing.
Ragdolls are known for their affectionate and gentle personalities — they thrive in homes where they are treated as true members of the family. With care, commitment, and plenty of cuddles, your Ragdoll will become a loving and devoted companion.
